Choosing a Solar Company in Newcastle
Check accreditation properly. Installer accreditation moved from the Clean Energy Council to Solar Accreditation Australia in 2024, and reputable retailers sign the New Energy Tech Consumer Code (NETCC). Verify both, not just a logo.
Ask who is on the roof. Some firms here employ their own crews; others subcontract. Get the answer in writing, because workmanship claims get messy with three parties involved.
Understand Ausgrid rules. Newcastle and most of the Hunter sit on the Ausgrid network. Your installer must lodge a connection application before installing, and export limits can apply depending on your phase and local capacity. Be wary of anyone who cannot explain yours.

FAQ
How much does solar cost in Newcastle in 2026? Most 6.6 kW systems land roughly between $5,000 and $9,000 installed after the STC rebate, and 10 kW systems about $8,000 to $13,000. Batteries in the 10 to 13.5 kWh class are often quoted around $9,000 to $15,000 before the Cheaper Home Batteries discount. Treat these as market bands, not quotes.
Which warranties actually matter? Workmanship first, because roof leaks and cable faults are installation issues. Then the inverter warranty, since inverters fail more often than panels. Long panel performance warranties matter least; a performance claim is very hard to prove.
Are cheap installers safe? Cheap is not automatically bad (GoSolar shows value and quality coexist), but a quote far below the market band usually means subcontracted labour, no-name hardware or a company unlikely to honour warranties.
How do I check an installer is legitimate? Look up the installer on the Solar Accreditation Australia register, the retailer on the NETCC approved seller list, and the electrical licence with NSW Fair Trading. Cross-check the trading name against the ABN.
