Rebates and tariffs change often. These answers were checked in October 2026. If something is out of date or an installer is listed wrongly, tell us and we will correct it.
Report a correctionSolar Choice's price index for 1 October 2026 puts the average Canberra price at $5,700 for a 6 kW system and $6,440 for 7 kW, after the STC discount and including GST. A 6.6 kW system usually falls between those. Premium systems averaged $6,920 to $7,570. Our Canberra guide covers a small market led by strong local installers, and quotes far below the local pack deserve scrutiny. The Sustainable Household Scheme's product list does not include rooftop solar for general households, so most buyers pay for panels in cash or with private finance.
As of October 2026 there is no ACT rebate for solar panels for most households. Federal STCs are the main discount. A 6.6 kW system in Canberra, which is in zone 3, earns about 45 certificates in 2026, worth up to about $1,800, and about 36 in 2027. Batteries get 6.8 federal certificates per usable kWh on the first 14 kWh until 31 December 2026. The Sustainable Household Scheme then offers a 3 per cent loan of $2,000 to $20,000 for a battery and other eligible products. Concession card holders may get up to $5,000 in Home Energy Support rebates.
The ACT Government says feed-in tariffs are voluntary and not regulated in the ACT, so retailers set their own rates. Standard offers we checked in August 2026 ranged from about 2.5c to 5c per kWh, and one capped boost plan paid up to 10c. Evoenergy applies a 5 kVA per phase export limit to all residential solar. Units in an embedded network may get less. A single phase home can export up to 5 kVA and a three phase home up to 15 kVA. Compare whole plans on Energy Made Easy rather than chasing the highest feed-in rate.
For a battery, yes. The Sustainable Household Scheme lends $2,000 to $20,000 at 3 per cent over up to 10 years for household batteries, heat pumps, electric cooktops, electric vehicles, EV chargers and insulation. Households that applied or were approved before 1 July 2026 are capped at $15,000 over the life of the scheme. The current eligible product list does not include rooftop solar for general households. Concession card holders can combine up to $5,000 in Home Energy Support rebates with a zero-interest loan of up to $10,000, and solar loans are available to them.
