Power and Water pre-approves basic systems up to 10 kVA on single phase or 30 kVA on three phase, with exports capped at 5 kW or 7 kW. Darwin sits in STC zone 2.

How we rank

The order comes from public review data, recalculated daily. We do not check accreditation, prices, products or workmanship. Confirm those on the Solar Accreditation Australia register and in your written quotes.

  1. 01
Services Northern TerritoryThe installer lists Northern Territory as a service area in our directory.
  2. 02
Installs solarIt has an installation category (residential, commercial, battery and so on) and at least 5 Google reviews. Cleaning-only businesses are left out.
  3. 03
Weighted ratingEach Google rating is blended with the Northern Territory average in proportion to its review count (a weight of 50 reviews), so a 5.0 from a handful of reviews cannot outrank a 4.9 from hundreds.

How much does a 6.6 kW solar system cost in the Northern Territory?

Solar costs more in the Territory. Solar Choice's price index for 1 October 2026 puts the average Darwin price at $9,890 for a 6 kW system and $10,490 for 7 kW, after the STC discount and including GST. That is the highest of any capital. A 6.6 kW system usually falls between those, and premium systems averaged $11,630 to $12,680. Freight, cyclone-rated mounting and a small installer pool all add cost. No Alice Springs installer we reviewed publishes prices, so get at least two local quotes and compare them line by line.

What solar rebates and incentives are available in the NT right now?

As of October 2026 there is no NT Government rebate. The Home and Business Battery Scheme reached its $6 million funding allocation and is closed to new grants. Federal STCs are the main discount for panels. Darwin is in zone 2, so a 6.6 kW system earns about 50 certificates in 2026, worth up to about $2,000. Alice Springs is in zone 1 and earns about 53. Both fall by about a fifth in 2027 as the deeming period shortens. Batteries get 6.8 federal certificates per usable kWh on the first 14 kWh until 31 December 2026, then 5.7.

What feed-in tariffs and export limits apply in the NT?

Jacana Energy, the Territory's main retailer, pays an Anytime feed-in tariff of 9.33c per kWh. Customers with rooftop solar and a smart meter also get a Super FiT of 18.66c per kWh for exports between 3pm and 9pm, applied automatically. Panels alone export little in that window, so west-facing panels or a battery help you use it. Power and Water's basic connection is pre-approved with a site export limit of 5 kW on single phase or 7 kW on three phase. Larger exports need a negotiated connection and an assessment.

What are Power and Water's solar connection rules?

Power and Water sorts systems into connection types. A basic micro embedded generation connection is pre-approved, with no assessment fee. In Darwin, Katherine, Alice Springs and Tennant Creek it allows up to 10 kVA of inverter capacity on single phase or 30 kVA on three phase, with exports limited to 5 kW or 7 kW. Anything bigger is a negotiated connection. It needs an assessment, attracts a fee and can take about 65 business days. Remote networks and minor centres have custom rules, and inverters must use AS4777 2020 Region A settings.
