Tindo Solar
Walara
Solar Panel review
Our verdict
Tindo's Walara panels are the only Australian-made option, with a 25-year warranty that includes removal and reinstallation in capital city areas and a claims team down the road rather than overseas. You pay a clear premium for that, and on paper the panel itself is no better than mainstream imported TOPCon, with a shorter 25-year performance warranty.

Tindo Solar is Australia’s only solar panel manufacturer, assembling panels at Mawson Lakes in Adelaide since 2011. Its current range is the Walara G4P series, an n-type TOPCon panel sold mainly as a 440 W standard panel and a 475 W all-black version. Older Tindo roofs carry the Karra range and earlier Walara generations. Tindo is usually quoted to homeowners who want to buy Australian, by Tindo’s own sales and installation team in Adelaide and Melbourne and by independent installers elsewhere. The pitch is local manufacturing and a warranty that covers labour, at a higher price than imported panels. This review is based on manufacturer documentation, Australian warranty terms, published pricing and owner and installer feedback; Solar Cobber did not test the product and was not paid by the manufacturer.
What it is and how it works
Tindo was founded in 2011 by Adrian Ferraretto, Richard Inwood and Ben Kerry and changed ownership in 2017. It says it employs around 70 people. The panels are laminated, framed and tested in South Australia, but the solar cells are imported (SolarQuotes reports this, and Tindo describes its panels as “designed and engineered” in Australia). SolarQuotes also reports that Tindo sources Australian-made aluminium frames from Capral.
Walara G4P (current). Tindo calls it its ninth generation. It uses n-type TOPCon cells with 16 busbars, laser-cut into half cells:
- Walara-440G4P: 108 half cells, 1722 x 1133 x 35 mm, 21.0 kg, 22.6% efficiency.
- Walara-475G4P-BL: 120 half cells, all black, 1910 x 1133 x 35 mm, 23.5 kg, 21.9% efficiency.
The CEC approved list also includes other G4P power classes from 430 W, and larger 535 to 595 W versions aimed at commercial roofs.
Walara G3P and Karra (older). Walara G3P models (415 to 575 W) remain on the CEC list until September 2027. The older Karra range, Tindo’s earlier residential panel, is no longer current: the last Karra listings on the CEC list (Karra-405G2H and Karra-410G2H) show an expiry date of 31 March 2025. If you already own Karra panels, your warranty terms depend on your invoice date (see below).
In August 2025, ARENA announced A$34.5 million in Solar Sunshot funding for Tindo to lift its Mawson Lakes output from 20 MW to 180 MW a year, add automation and study a possible 1 GW gigafactory. Tindo’s CEO said the aim is “lower prices, broader market reach”.
Specs that matter in Australia
Efficiency and size. At 22.6%, the 440 W Walara is below the 23.5 to 23.8% now common in 475 W imported TOPCon panels. The 475 W all-black version reaches that power with a longer 1910 mm panel, so check your roof layout.
Heat. Tindo lists a power temperature coefficient of -0.30%/°C and a nominal operating temperature of 45 ± 2°C. That is typical TOPCon behaviour, slightly behind the -0.29%/°C of most imported TOPCon and well behind heterojunction panels at around -0.24%/°C. Tindo says its panels are “consistently one of the highest performing” at the DKA Solar Centre in Alice Springs; that is a manufacturer claim.
Weather. Datasheets list the standard IEC hail test (25 mm ice ball at 23 m/s), 5400 Pa front and 2400 Pa rear mechanical load testing, a 35 mm frame Tindo says reduces flex and micro-cracking, and cyclone testing by Structural Engineering Consultants Australia (certificate on request). If you live in a cyclone region, ask your installer for that certificate and the matching racking design.
Electrical. Open-circuit voltage is about 40 V (440 W) or 44 V (475 W) with around 13 to 14 A of current, so the panels pair easily with standard residential inverters and optimiser or microinverter systems.
CEC listing. We confirmed Walara G4P models (including Walara-440G4P and 475G4P-BL) on the CEC approved modules list published by the Clean Energy Regulator (October 2026 version), so they are eligible for STCs. See our STC rebate explainer.
Phase, export limits and VPPs are determined by the inverter, not the panel.
Price in Australia
Tindo does not publish system prices on its website, but published estimates are consistent:
- SolarQuotes puts the Walara 440 W at about A$191 per panel, roughly A$0.43 per watt (updated November 2025, down from about A$260), compared with A$120 to A$140 for a comparable 440 W budget-brand panel.
- SolarQuotes owners report paying A$16,000 to A$25,000 for 13 kW Tindo systems, depending on hardware and installation complexity.
On a 6.6 kW system, a panel premium of about A$50 to A$70 each across 15 panels adds roughly A$750 to A$1,050 before installer margin, based on those SolarQuotes figures. Inverter choice can widen or narrow the gap further. The ARENA-funded expansion is meant to bring Tindo’s costs down, but we have not seen evidence of that in published prices yet. Use our guide to comparing solar quotes to line up a Tindo quote against an imported-panel quote with the same inverter.
Warranty: the fine print
The current document is the Tindo N-Type PV Module Consumer Warranty (Version C). Key terms:
- Product warranty: 25 years from the original invoice date, covering defects in materials and workmanship.
- Performance warranty: 25 years. At least 97% of rated output in year 1, then no more than 0.4% decline a year, to at least 87.4% at year 25. Note that most imported TOPCon panels now carry 30-year performance warranties.
- Labour included: Tindo covers on-site labour, removal, reinstallation and transport for warranty service within capital city metropolitan areas. Owners at “remote sites (>50km from CBD of Australian capital cities)” bear the excess costs, including on-site labour and transport.
- Claims handled directly by Tindo on 1300 846 367 or via service.tindosolar.com.au, under South Australian law, with the Australian Consumer Law statement included.
- Exclusions: corrosive agents “including but not limited to agricultural, industrial and environmental pollutants”, power surges, lightning, fire, flood, pest damage, breakage and installation not to the manual. Grid-scale (over 1 MW) installations are excluded.
- Transfer: the warranty passes to new owners if the panels stay in place.
Premium Warranty Offer. For systems bought from 1 November 2025, Tindo pays A$1,000 on a valid warranty claim that requires panel replacement. It is one payment per site for the life of the warranty, does not transfer to a new owner, excludes impact damage, and requires registration within 60 days of installation.
Older Tindo panels. Warranty terms have improved over time. Tindo’s 2018 warranty document gave a 10-year product warranty with power guarantees of 90% at 12 years and 80% at 25 years, while its February 2024 version gives 25 years of product cover with metro labour included. Karra and early Walara owners should check the version tied to their invoice date.
What owners and installers report
The panels themselves score well. SolarQuotes shows 4.7 out of 5 from 140 owner ratings, and its founder Finn Peacock calls Tindo “the only manufacturer I would recommend to a friend” among Australian-made options while noting the panels are more expensive than many other brands. Common praise: long-term reliability, appearance, and the satisfaction of buying local. Tindo claims a field failure rate of 1 in every 200,000 panels; that is Tindo’s figure, not an independent one.
The criticism is mainly about Tindo as a retailer and installer, not the panels. ProductReview lists Tindo Solar at 3.1 out of 5 from 22 reviews, with recurring complaints about installation quality, delays between installation stages, poor communication, quote changes before installation, and monitoring or gateway problems. Some owners of older systems (on ProductReview, and in one 2024 SolarQuotes review) describe disputes over responsibility for pre-2017 equipment after the change of ownership. If you buy Tindo panels through an independent installer, that installer’s own service record matters as much as Tindo’s.
Our search did not find an ACCC Product Safety recall for Tindo panels.

Choose the REC Alpha Pure-RX if you want a premium panel with better heat performance and a higher year-25 guarantee, also with labour cover. Choose Canadian Solar TOPHiKu6 if lowest cost per watt matters most and you accept that labour is not covered.
Questions to ask your installer
- Which exact Walara model and generation am I getting (for example Walara-440G4P), and is it on the current CEC list?
- Is my address within 50 km of a capital city CBD for Tindo’s labour cover, and if not, what would a claim cost me?
- Will you register my system for the A$1,000 Premium Warranty Offer within 60 days, or should I?
- How much more is this quote than the same system with imported TOPCon panels?
- Which inverter or optimisers are you pairing with the panels, and who warrants them?
- Can you provide Tindo’s cyclone test certificate if I am in a high-wind region?
- If you are not Tindo, who handles a panel warranty claim: you or Tindo directly?
FAQ
Are Tindo solar panels really made in Australia?
Yes. Tindo assembles and tests its panels at Mawson Lakes in Adelaide, the only panel factory operating in Australia. The solar cells themselves are imported.
Are Tindo panels worth the extra cost?
They are worth it if you value Australian manufacturing and a labour-inclusive local warranty. On specifications alone, mainstream imported TOPCon panels match or beat them for less money.
What is the difference between Tindo Walara and Karra?
Karra was Tindo’s earlier panel range and is no longer current; its last CEC listings expired in March 2025. Walara is the current range, with the G4P generation using n-type TOPCon cells.
What warranty do Tindo panels have?
Current n-type Walara panels have a 25-year product warranty, including removal and reinstallation in capital city metro areas, and a 25-year performance warranty to 87.4%. Older panels may have shorter terms depending on purchase date.
Does the Tindo warranty cover labour?
Yes, within capital city metropolitan areas. Sites more than 50 km from a capital city CBD must pay excess labour and transport costs.
Is Tindo getting cheaper?
Possibly over time. ARENA’s A$34.5 million Solar Sunshot grant (August 2025) is meant to scale output ninefold and lower costs, and SolarQuotes reported the 440 W panel price falling from about A$260 to A$191 in November 2025.

REC Alpha Pure-RX
The Alpha Pure-RX offers the best long-term guarantee in this group, at least 92% of nameplate power at year 25, plus 25 years of product and labour cover when an REC Certified installer registers it. The catch is price: panel hardware costs roughly two and a half times as much per watt as budget TOPCon, and the extra-wide 1205 mm format does not suit every roof.
Best for: Owners planning to stay 20 years or more who value a low degradation guarantee and labour cover

Canadian Solar
Canadian Solar TOPHiKu6
The TOPHiKu6 is a solid, well-supported value panel that does the job on most Australian roofs at a mainstream price. Check that you are getting a black-frame model (the 25-year product warranty depends on it) and budget for the fact that removal and reinstallation labour is not covered.
Best for: Budget to mid-range systems on ordinary roofs where value and a local warranty office matter most
