We shortlisted installers with a meaningful Canberra presence, cutting any we could not verify as actively installing in the ACT from their own websites. The final seven were assessed on reputation and years operating, equipment quality and range, installation model (in-house versus subcontracted, where discoverable), pricing signals, warranties, customer service commitments, review patterns and after-sales evidence.

Choosing a solar company in Canberra
Check accreditation first. Installer accreditation moved from the Clean Energy Council to Solar Accreditation Australia (SAA) in 2024, and reputable retailers are approved sellers under the New Energy Tech Consumer Code (NETCC). Ask for the installer’s SAA accreditation number, not just the salesperson’s card.

Know the ACT money. The federal STC incentive discounts every system upfront (see our STC rebate guide), and the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program has discounted battery installs since July 2025 (see our battery rebate guide). The ACT Sustainable Household Scheme now lends $2,000 to $20,000 over up to 10 years at 3 per cent for batteries, heat pumps and EV chargers, but standard-scheme loans no longer cover rooftop panels; zero-interest loans survive only in the Home Energy Support Program for eligible concession holders.
Plan for Evoenergy. Evoenergy is the ACT’s network operator and must approve your grid connection. Export limits can apply depending on suburb and phase supply, so ask each quoter what export limit they will apply for.
Design for cold-climate performance. Canberra panels perform well in cold, clear winter sun, but frost, morning shading and short winter days punish poor design. Ask how the layout handles winter yield and whether optimisers or microinverters suit your roof.

How much does solar cost in Canberra in 2026? After the federal STC discount, most quality 6.6 kW to 10 kW residential systems in the ACT land in the mid four figures to low five figures before batteries. Treat any quote dramatically below the local pack as a red flag.
How many quotes should I get? Three: one large local (SolarHub), one specialist matched to your priority (SunStak for batteries, ECG for warranty), and one value quote (Solar4Life or Stored Solar). Identical system sizes make comparison honest.
Which warranties actually matter? In rough order: workmanship warranty (covers leaks and wiring faults), inverter warranty (the most likely component to fail), panel product warranty, then panel performance warranty (the 25-year number, which matters least).
Are cheap interstate installers safe to use in Canberra? Sometimes, but Evoenergy paperwork, frost-aware design and after-sales all favour a company with a Mitchell or Fyshwick warehouse. How do I check an installer is legitimate? Verify the installer on the SAA accreditation register, check the retailer is a NETCC approved seller, confirm an ACT electrical contractor licence, and search the exact company name plus “reviews” and “complaints”.
What happens if my installer goes out of business? Manufacturer warranties survive if the maker has an Australian office, but workmanship warranties usually die with the company. That is the strongest argument for established operators and hardware brands with local Australian support.

How big a deposit is normal? Ten per cent or less is typical. Be wary of demands for 50 per cent up front or full payment before installation.
What are the red flags in a Canberra solar quote? No SAA accreditation number, no named hardware models, “interest free” claims without a program name, no workmanship warranty in writing, no mention of Evoenergy approval, and pricing far below every local competitor.
