We Reviewed the Best Solar Companies in Alice Springs

Alice Springs has some of the best sunshine in Australia and one of its smallest solar markets. It runs on its own small electricity grid, has its own connection rules from Power and Water, and its feed-in tariffs come from Jacana Energy rather than a competitive retail market. This guide is for Alice Springs and Central Australian households, and owners of remote blocks and stations, comparing quotes for solar, batteries or off-grid power. We reviewed six installers with a verified Alice Springs base: Photon Solar, Oneroof Solar, Sawtell Contracting NT, Sebelec, Hills Electrical & Solar NT and Dynamic Solutions NT. This is independent desk research using company websites, Google review data, Power and Water and Jacana Energy pages, and published information. We did not contact these companies, request quotes or accept payment for inclusion. Public review evidence is thin for almost every installer in town, so treat ratings as a starting point and ask for local references. By the end you will know who to call first, where each falls short, and what Territory-specific rules to check before signing.

Ratings are for each company’s Alice Springs Google listing. Most are too small to show a pattern, which is normal in a town this size.

Best Overall: Photon Solar

Photon Solar, based at Ilparpa on the edge of town, is the most established dedicated solar business in Alice Springs. Its Facebook page says it has delivered solar in Alice Springs since 2010 (other listings give 2005 or 2009), and a post in a Territory renewables Facebook group describes it as getting a lot of positive local feedback. It covers grid-connected homes, off-grid systems and solar water pumping.

Pros

  • Longest track record of any solar-focused business in town
  • Premium battery range: Tesla Powerwall 3, Sigenergy and GoodWe
  • Off-grid and stand-alone systems, plus Lorentz solar water pumps for bores and stock
  • Says it uses a team of licensed electricians and offers finance

Cons

  • Very thin Google record: about 2 reviews averaging 4.0, so there is little public evidence of recent service quality
  • Workmanship warranty is not published
  • Founding date is reported inconsistently across its own and third-party listings

Best Written Warranty: Oneroof Solar

Oneroof Solar is a Darwin-based installer that also operates in Alice Springs, with a local Google listing at 44 Zeil Street, Araluen. It publishes a 10-year workmanship warranty and a clear brand list, and offers $0 deposit solar plans. Cons

  • Head office and most of its business are in Darwin, so confirm whether a local crew or a fly-in team will install and service your system

How we reviewed

We started with Google Maps results for solar installers and solar companies around Alice Springs, then cross-checked SolarQuotes listings and Google search results. We removed battery shops, wholesalers, solar farms, research facilities and electricians that do not advertise solar. We also excluded Darwin and interstate firms that list Alice Springs as a service area but show no local office or local reviews. Country Solar NT, reviewed in our Darwin guide, says it serves Alice Springs from Darwin.

For each company we read its own website for history, service area, brands, warranty and accreditation claims, then checked Google ratings (October 2026) and other public review sources. We weighed reputation and experience, equipment quality, installation model, pricing, warranties, customer service and after-sales support.

We did not request quotes, contact companies or inspect installations, and no company paid for inclusion. We do not verify accreditation, so check the Clean Energy Council approved retailer list and the Solar Accreditation Australia installer register yourself.

Choosing a solar company in Alice Springs

Power and Water connection limits. Power and Water’s published rules for Alice Springs (shared with Darwin, Katherine and Tennant Creek) pre-approve basic connections with total inverter capacity up to 10kVA single phase or 30kVA three phase, and a site export limit of 5kW single phase or 7kW three phase. Larger systems need a negotiated assessment, with a best-endeavours timeline of 65 business days and a fee. Inverters must use AS4777 2020 Region A settings. Ask each installer which class your design falls into.

Feed-in tariffs. Jacana Energy’s published residential rates for 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027 are 9.33c per kWh for the Anytime FiT and 18.66c per kWh for the Super FiT, which applies automatically from 3pm to 9pm for customers with a smart meter. Jacana’s page says NT electricity prices are regulated and subsidised by the NT Government. The Super FiT rewards west-facing panels and batteries that export into the evening. See our feed-in tariff tracker.

Batteries. The NT Government’s Home and Business Battery Scheme was closed to new applications when we checked its status in August 2026, so the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program is the main battery discount. From 1 May 2026 that discount is tiered by battery size. See our state battery rebates guide and battery reviews.

Heat and dust. Alice Springs is not cyclonic, but months of 40-plus degree days are hard on inverters and batteries. Ask where they will be mounted, whether they will be shaded and ventilated, and how often panels should be cleaned.

Local crew versus fly-in. In a remote town, the installer’s ability to come back matters more than the price. Ask who will service the system and how quickly.

Quote transparency. Named models, the STC discount shown separately, the Power and Water connection class and export limit, and a written workmanship term. Use our quote comparison guide.

FAQ

How much does solar cost in Alice Springs? No local installer publishes prices. Remote freight and travel mean quotes are often higher than in capital cities for the same hardware. Get at least two local quotes and compare them line by line. See our STC rebate explainer.

Is solar worth it in Alice Springs? Usually. The town’s sunshine is excellent and air conditioning loads peak while panels produce. Jacana’s Super FiT also pays double for exports from 3pm to 9pm, which suits west-facing panels or a battery.

Can I install a big system? Basic connections are pre-approved up to 10kVA of inverter capacity on single phase or 30kVA on three phase, with export capped at 5kW or 7kW. Anything larger needs Power and Water assessment.

How many quotes should I get? Two or three. In a small market, include at least one long-established local business. Our guide to choosing a solar installer explains what to compare.

Which warranties matter most? Workmanship first, then inverter, then panel product warranty. Only one installer here publishes a workmanship term, so ask every one.

Are interstate or fly-in installers safe? Some are fine, but warranty callouts are the risk. Check SAA accreditation, New Energy Tech approval and who will service your system locally.

Should I add a battery now or later? With the NT battery scheme closed, the federal discount is the main help. A battery-ready hybrid inverter lets you add storage later. See our guide to battery costs.

What are red flags in an Alice Springs solar quote? No connection class or export limit stated, no named models, no written workmanship term, inverters mounted in full afternoon sun, and payback figures that ignore Power and Water’s limits.
