The 8 Best Off-Grid Solar Installers in Australia for 2026

This guide is for rural landholders, tree-changers and anyone facing a big grid connection quote who wants a properly engineered stand-alone power system. Off-grid is a different discipline from adding a battery to a suburban home: the system must carry you through a week of cloud, run pumps and workshops, and start a generator automatically when it needs to.

We compared eight installers that verifiably design stand-alone systems, chosen by region: Off-Grid Energy Australia, Rainbow Power Company, NSW Country Solar, RACV Solar, AHLEC Solar, Expert Energy Tasmania, Eco Sparks and OffGrid WA. Each one shows off-grid design on its own website, with inverter-chargers, battery banks and generator integration rather than just hybrid batteries.

This is independent desk research using company websites, public review patterns, published pricing and government program documents. We did not contact any company, request quotes or accept payment for inclusion. You will learn which specialist covers your region, the trade-offs of each, and what to check before paying a deposit.

  • Awards it lists include Clean Energy Project of the Year 2025 and a Selectronic Excellence award
  • 4.7 stars from roughly 60 Google reviews as of October 2026

Cons

  • No prices published; standalone systems commonly cost several times a grid-tied battery, so expect a premium quote
  • Workmanship warranty length is not published
  • In distant states your crew may be a network partner rather than head-office staff
  • Very small SolarQuotes footprint (6 reviews), so its national reputation rests on a thin public record

Enquire at offgridenergy.com.au, or browse all Australian installers in our directory.

Key facts. Based at Dudley Park, Adelaide. Says it is a New Energy Tech approved seller and Smart Energy Council member, and offers 24/7 troubleshooting support. Also works in New Zealand and the Pacific.

Why we selected them. Few companies anywhere in Australia do nothing but off-grid at this scale, and its licences cover most of the country.

Products and brands offered. Selectronic SP PRO and Victron inverter-chargers, BYD battery banks, Tesla Powerwall for hybrid jobs, Fronius solar inverters and backup generators.

Installation quality and reputation. Reviews describe professional, tidy installs and detailed consultations. SolarQuotes category scores are 5.0 for installation.

Pricing and value. Not published. The company frames off-grid as cost-effective where grid connection would cost tens of thousands.

Warranty and after-sales support. Component warranties follow the manufacturers. Ask how remote callouts are priced and who attends.

What customers praise and what complaints recur. Praise for communication and engineering detail; complaints are rare, with occasional comments on price.

Best for rural properties anywhere in Australia wanting a specialist. Look elsewhere for a simple suburban hybrid battery, where volume installers are cheaper. More SA options are on our SA top installers page.

  • A 24/7 emergency support line
  • Backed by a large member organisation that will outlast most warranties

Cons

  • SolarQuotes reviews (4.4 from roughly 360) report slow after-sales responses and long waits for commissioning
  • Google ratings vary widely by branch: 4.1 from roughly 90 at Dandenong South, 4.9 from roughly 40 at Bairnsdale
  • Prices quoted exclude a generator, which most off-grid homes need
  • Workmanship warranty length is not stated on its off-grid page

Enquire at racv.com.au, or browse all Victorian installers in our directory.

Key facts. Victoria-wide with regional branches; its NSW (Merimbula) branch closed in 2024, according to SolarQuotes.

Why we selected them. A large brand with regional crews and transparent pricing is rare in off-grid, where most firms quote only on request.

Products and brands offered. Selectronic SP PRO Series 2i (3kW to 240kW), Selectronic managed AC coupling, PowerPlus Slimline and Rack batteries (12kWh to 80kWh) and backup generators.

Installation quality and reputation. Installers score 4.6 for installation on SolarQuotes; one review describes a drilled inverter casing that voided a warranty.

Pricing and value. Mid-market, and the published figures are a useful benchmark for any quote.

Warranty and after-sales support. Manufacturer warranties of 10 to 25 years on panels and inverters and 10 years on batteries. After-sales responsiveness is the weak point.

What customers praise and what complaints recur. Praise for professional crews and honest shading advice; complaints about admin errors and delays.

Best for Gippsland, Bendigo and Geelong hinterland properties. See our Victoria top installers page. Look elsewhere if fast after-sales service is your priority.

Best for the Sunshine Coast and Hinterland: AHLEC Solar

Best for WA properties. See our WA top installers page. Look elsewhere in the Kimberley.

How we reviewed

We shortlisted from search results for off-grid solar installers in each state, Google Maps listings around rural centres (Lismore, Dubbo, Bendigo, Gympie, Hobart, Darwin, Perth and Adelaide) and specialist review platforms. We kept only companies whose own websites show stand-alone system design, not just hybrid batteries, and picked the strongest per region.

Each company was assessed on off-grid experience, equipment quality, design process, installation model, pricing transparency, warranty, after-sales support and review patterns. Sources were company websites, SolarQuotes reviews, Google ratings as of October 2026 and DCCEEW and Clean Energy Regulator program information. We requested no quotes, conducted no visits or interviews, and no company paid for placement.

Choosing an off-grid solar installer in Australia

Insist on a load assessment. A good designer asks for every appliance, pump and seasonal load, then sizes for your worst winter week. Packages sized by roof space are a warning sign.

Check the platform. Purpose-built off-grid inverter-chargers (Selectronic, Victron, SMA) are designed for generator integration and long autonomy. Ask what happens when batteries run low.

Ask about days of autonomy and generator runtime. Get the design’s assumed cloudy days and expected annual generator hours in writing.

Use the battery rebate. The federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program covers off-grid batteries. Sites more than 1km from the grid do not need a VPP-capable battery; closer sites need evidence that connection would cost more than $30,000, or VPP-capable equipment. The panels also earn STCs; see our STC rebate guide and battery rebate guide.

Check accreditation. Installer accreditation moved from the Clean Energy Council to Solar Accreditation Australia in 2024; check the SAA register and New Energy Tech approved seller list yourself.

Plan for service distance. Ask who attends a fault, how far they travel and what remote monitoring they provide.

Ask your distributor. Some networks, including Essential Energy in NSW, now install their own stand-alone power systems for fringe-of-grid customers, which may change your decision.

FAQ

How much does an off-grid solar system cost?

Published prices here range from $16,500 (RACV’s basic system, excluding generator) to $99,900+ (OffGrid WA’s top tier). RACV puts a typical 6.6kW and 16kWh home system at around $28,500 after rebates, before a generator. Your loads and autonomy target drive the real number.

How many quotes should I get?

Three, ideally including a dedicated off-grid specialist and a local electrician who can service the system.

Which warranties matter most?

Battery and inverter-charger warranties (10 years is typical) and the installer’s workmanship warranty, which only Expert Energy Tasmania publishes here.

Do I need a generator?

Almost always, for extended cloudy periods. Ask for automatic generator start.

Is a cheap off-grid kit safe?

DIY kits suit small sheds and caravans. Household systems must be designed and installed by licensed electricians to the stand-alone power system standard.

What if my installer goes bust?

Manufacturer warranties survive. Local service does not, which is why longevity matters more off-grid than on-grid. See our solar company failures tracker.

Batteries now or later?

Off-grid systems need batteries from day one. The federal battery discount steps down on 1 January 2027, so timing matters.

What are the red flags in an off-grid quote?

No load assessment, no stated usable battery capacity, no autonomy figure, no generator plan, and deposits above 10 per cent. Our solar quote comparison guide helps.
