This guide is for Sydney households adding a battery to existing solar, or buying solar and storage together, who want an installer that treats batteries as core work rather than an add-on. Poor commissioning, badly planned backup circuits and slow VPP onboarding are the common failures, and they are installer problems, not product problems.
We compared seven installers: PSC Energy, Natural Solar, Platinum Solar Group, 1KOMMA5°, Energy Culture, Ozeal Energy and Solahart Sydney. They were assessed through independent desk research using company websites, review patterns on Google, SolarQuotes and ProductReview, published pricing and NSW and federal government program pages. We did not contact any company, request quotes or accept payment for inclusion.
You will learn who to call first for your situation, each company’s real weaknesses, how the federal battery discount and the NSW VPP incentive work together in October 2026, and what to check before paying a deposit.

How the battery incentives work in Sydney (October 2026)
Federal discount. The Cheaper Home Batteries Program applies through small-scale technology certificates. Since 1 May 2026 it is tiered: the full rate applies to the first 14kWh of usable capacity, 60 per cent from 14kWh to 28kWh and 15 per cent from 28kWh to 50kWh. Solar Choice estimates the full rate at about $252 per kWh at a $37 certificate price, which is roughly $3,400 off a 13.5kWh Tesla Powerwall 3. The certificate factor steps down again on 1 January 2027. Grid-connected batteries must be VPP-capable, though joining a VPP is optional.
NSW VPP incentive. The NSW Government’s upfront battery installation discount ended for households on 1 July 2025. What remains is the NSW incentive for connecting a battery to a virtual power plant, paid through participating VPP providers. It is based on usable capacity made available to the grid up to 28kWh, batteries from 2kWh to 50kWh are eligible from 1 July 2026, it can be claimed once per meter, and it can be combined with the federal discount. The amount varies by provider, so compare offers. More detail is in our battery rebate guide and state-by-state rebate guide.

How we reviewed
We shortlisted from Google Maps listings across Sydney, search results for Sydney battery installers, review platforms and manufacturer pages, keeping only companies with clear battery credentials. Each was assessed on reputation and experience, battery range, installation model, pricing signals, warranty, customer service and after-sales review patterns.
Sources were company websites, NSW Climate and Energy Action pages, DCCEEW program information, Solar Choice rebate data, SolarQuotes and ProductReview reviews, and Google ratings as of October 2026. We requested no quotes, made no visits or calls, and no company paid for placement.
Choosing a solar battery installer in Sydney
Check accreditation yourself. Battery installers must be accredited by Solar Accreditation Australia for the federal discount, and the retailer should be a New Energy Tech approved seller. Solar Cobber does not verify accreditation.
Ask who installs it. PSC Energy and Platinum Solar Group say they use no subcontractors. Others should tell you in writing.
Plan backup properly. Ask which circuits are backed up, how long the switchover takes and whether your switchboard needs an upgrade.
Compare VPP offers. The NSW incentive only arrives through a VPP provider, so compare the upfront payment, ongoing credits and how much control the provider gets.
Check network rules. Ausgrid and Endeavour Energy set export limits that affect design.
Compare like for like. Quotes should name the battery model, usable capacity and certificate discount. See our quote comparison guide and installer selection guide.
FAQ
How much does a battery cost in Sydney?
Sydney installers advertise a Powerwall 3 at roughly $13,500 to $16,500 installed before the federal discount, which takes off roughly $3,400 at current certificate prices. See our battery cost guide.
How many quotes should I get?
Three: a premium in-house installer, a multi-brand installer and a budget option.
Can I get both the federal and NSW incentives?
Yes. The NSW VPP incentive can be combined with the federal discount; the old NSW installation discount ended on 1 July 2025.
Do I have to join a VPP?
No for the federal discount; yes for the NSW incentive.
Which warranties matter most?
The battery’s 10-year product warranty and the installer’s workmanship warranty.
What if my installer goes bust?
Product warranties survive with the manufacturer. Workmanship cover does not. See our solar company failures tracker.
Should I buy now or wait?
The federal factor steps down on 1 January 2027, so waiting usually means a smaller discount.
What are red flags in a battery quote?
No usable capacity figure, no backup circuit scope, vague rebate lines, deposits above 10 per cent and same-day signing pressure.
