Updated 11 October 2026 · Solar Cobber editorial team

Our verdict

The GoodWe Lynx F is a sensible, well-priced modular battery with strong owner ratings, and the current G2 version stretches to 28.8 kWh on one tower. The catch is a warranty with more conditions than most, including a GoodWe-inverter requirement, a mandatory internet connection and a one-year window to add modules.

Best for
Homes wanting a mid-priced modular battery with a GoodWe hybrid or retrofit inverter
Look elsewhere if
Homes that want to add capacity years later or install in direct sun

The GoodWe Lynx Home F is a modular high-voltage battery that stacks on the floor next to a GoodWe inverter. For several years it was the default battery on GoodWe hybrid quotes in Australia, usually in 9.8 kWh to 16.4 kWh sizes, and the F Plus+ refresh kept the same 3.27 kWh module. GoodWe’s current Australian version is the Lynx F G2, a second-generation stack with 3.2 kWh modules that reaches 28.8 kWh on one tower. If your quote says “Lynx F” today, it is almost certainly the G2.

GoodWe is now one of the biggest battery brands here: in May 2026 GoodWe said SunWiz data for April 2026 put it first for market share in home batteries up to 30 kWh. This review covers the Lynx Home F family with a focus on the G2 you can buy now. It is based on manufacturer documentation, the Australian warranty terms, published pricing and owner and installer feedback; Solar Cobber did not test the product and was not paid by the manufacturer.

What it is and how it works

The Lynx F is a DC-coupled lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery. A tower is a base, a set of identical battery modules and a control unit on top. Modules are “self-detecting”, so the installer stacks them and the battery management system recognises the count. On the G2, each LX F3.2-20 module holds 3.2 kWh at 64 V, and two to nine modules give 6.4 to 28.8 kWh at 128 V to 576 V. Up to eight towers can run in parallel.

The battery needs a GoodWe inverter. There are two ways in:

  • Hybrid install: a GoodWe EH (single-phase) or ET (three-phase) hybrid inverter runs both solar and battery. This suits new systems or homes replacing an old inverter.
  • Retrofit: a GoodWe BH (single-phase) or BT (three-phase) battery inverter sits beside your existing solar inverter, whatever brand it is, and charges the Lynx from surplus solar on the AC side.

That retrofit option is a real advantage over batteries locked to a single hybrid inverter. The trade-off is that the battery itself can only talk to GoodWe kit, and the warranty says so.

The older Lynx Home F and F Plus+ use 3.27 kWh LX F3.3-H modules in two to five module stacks (6.55 to 16.38 kWh). Those models no longer appear on the Clean Energy Council approved batteries list as of October 2026, so a new rebated install should be the G2.

Specs that matter in Australia

Heat and sun. The warranty requires that the battery is not exposed to direct sunlight or to temperatures above 50°C or below -10°C. That is stricter than the IP55 outdoor rating suggests. A north- or west-facing wall in full sun is a warranty problem, so insist on a shaded, ventilated spot or a garage.

Cold. Charging is rated from 0°C to 50°C and discharging from -20°C to 50°C, with GoodWe noting that power derates with temperature and state of charge. In Canberra or Tasmanian winters, an outdoor stack may charge slowly on frosty mornings.

Power. At the G2’s 35 A nominal current, a two-module tower is rated at 4.48 kW, four modules at 8.96 kW and nine at 20.16 kW. In practice the inverter sets the limit, so check the inverter’s backup output when judging what will run in a blackout. GoodWe notes the smallest 6.4 kWh tower does not have enough voltage to start its larger 15 to 30 kW ET inverters.

Single or three-phase. Both are covered: EH and BH for single-phase homes, ET and BT for three-phase.

Weight. A four-module G2 tower (12.8 kWh) weighs 154 kg and a nine-module tower 324 kg, standing 1,651 mm tall. It is floor-mounted, so it needs a level slab.

Rebate listing. We confirmed that all eight Lynx F G2 configurations (LX F6.4-H-20 to LX F28.8-H-20) are on the Clean Energy Council approved batteries list, approved on 7 July 2026 and listed until 31 December 2027.

Price in Australia

GoodWe does not publish retail prices. A March 2026 Australian price guide estimated a 12.8 kWh Lynx F G2 system at about A$11,100 installed before the federal discount and about A$7,900 after, or roughly A$617 per kWh net. That estimate predates the May 2026 rebate cut, so expect the after-rebate figure to sit somewhat higher now. Adding a new GoodWe hybrid inverter, or a BH/BT battery inverter for a retrofit, is part of most quotes.

Rebate interaction. The Cheaper Home Batteries discount is paid per usable kWh. For May to December 2026 the factor is 6.8 STCs per kWh, about A$251 per kWh at a A$37 certificate price, on the first 14 kWh; 60% of that from 14 to 28 kWh; and 15% from 28 to 50 kWh. Approximate discounts:

Lynx F G2 model Usable kWh Approx. federal discount
LX F9.6-H-20 9.6 A$2,420
LX F12.8-H-20 12.8 A$3,220
LX F16.0-H-20 16.0 A$3,820
LX F28.8-H-20 28.8 A$5,670

The rate steps down again on 1 January 2027. For state top-ups see our battery rebate guide, and for market context see how much a solar battery costs.

Warranty: the fine print

The Australian and New Zealand warranty for the Lynx F G2 (Rev 1.4) is issued by GoodWe Technologies Co., Ltd, with GoodWe Australia Pty Ltd in Rowville, Victoria, as importer (03 9918 3905).

  • Term: 10-year product warranty and 10-year performance warranty from first installation.
  • Capacity: at least 70% of usable capacity at 10 years, or until a minimum throughput is reached: 35.04 MWh for 9.6 kWh, 46.72 MWh for 12.8 kWh, 58.40 MWh for 16.0 kWh and 105.12 MWh for 28.8 kWh. GoodWe states the warranty covers the equivalent of one full cycle per day.
  • GoodWe inverter required. Any other brand must be cleared with GoodWe first.
  • Internet connection required. GoodWe says the warranty “may become null and void” for systems that are not kept online for monitoring.
  • Expansion window. Capacity cannot be added more than one year after first installation. If you think you will want more storage later, buy it now.
  • Stock age. The battery must be installed within six months of its production date.
  • Report faults within one month. Claims start with your installer or distributor, and you can escalate to GoodWe directly if they do not help.
  • Labour and freight. For the first five years GoodWe may cover freight and pay a service rebate for on-site labour, at its discretion and capped per case. For years six to ten, it covers hardware materials only.

The warranty also restates the Australian Consumer Law guarantees, which apply regardless.

What owners and installers report

GoodWe batteries hold a 4.9 out of 5 average across 636 owner ratings on SolarQuotes at the time of writing, with 600 five-star and 3 one-star ratings. Owners most often praise backup performance, self-sufficiency and the SEMS monitoring app, and one recent reviewer says the app has improved significantly.

Complaints are few. The ones that appear on SolarQuotes are occasional single-module failures replaced under warranty and, from at least one owner, indicator lights bright enough to be a nuisance near a bedroom. SolarQuotes founder Finn Peacock has noted that early Lynx batteries had compatibility limitations and that installer quality varies widely on cheaper GoodWe quotes.

Recall note. GoodWe ran a voluntary recall in September 2025 for some EHB-series and GE-branded GEH-series hybrid inverters, because in backup mode with the bypass switch set to bypass they could export to the grid. GoodWe is fixing affected units with a firmware update. This was an inverter recall, not a battery recall, but if your system has one of those inverters, check the update has been applied. We found no recall for the Lynx F batteries themselves.

The Fox ESS EQ4800 offers bigger stacks for less, with a shorter support track record.

Questions to ask your installer

  • Is this the Lynx F G2 (LX F x-H-20) or older Lynx Home F stock, and is it on the current CEC list?
  • Which GoodWe inverter is included (EH, ET, BH or BT), and what is its backup output?
  • Where will the tower go, and will it be out of direct sun all year?
  • How will the system stay online, and what happens to my warranty if the Wi-Fi drops out?
  • What is the production date of the modules, given the six-month installation rule?
  • Should I buy extra modules now, since capacity cannot be added after one year?
  • Is the price before or after the Cheaper Home Batteries discount, and how much is the discount?
  • If I already have a GoodWe EHB or GEH inverter, has the recall firmware been applied?

FAQ

What is the difference between Lynx Home F, F Plus+ and Lynx F G2?

Home F and F Plus+ use 3.27 kWh modules and top out at 16.38 kWh per tower. The G2 uses 3.2 kWh modules and reaches 28.8 kWh. The G2 is the version currently on the CEC approved list.

Can I add a GoodWe Lynx battery to my existing Fronius or SMA system?

Yes, through a GoodWe BH (single-phase) or BT (three-phase) battery inverter installed alongside your existing inverter. The battery itself still needs a GoodWe inverter.

Can I add more GoodWe modules later?

Only within one year of the first installation under the Australian warranty terms. After that, expansion is not allowed.

Does the GoodWe battery need to be online?

Yes. The warranty requires an internet connection for monitoring and says it may be voided without one.

How long is the GoodWe battery warranty?

10 years product and 10 years performance, with at least 70% capacity or a throughput limit, whichever comes first.

Can the Lynx F be installed outside?

It is IP55 rated for outdoor use, but the warranty excludes direct sunlight and temperatures above 50°C, so choose a shaded location.
