Huawei
LUNA2000
Battery review
Our verdict
The LUNA2000 is a well-built, slim modular battery that owners rate highly, but SolarQuotes reports Huawei no longer sells batteries in Australia and add-on modules are only promised until the end of 2026. Existing owners should expand now if they plan to; new buyers should only consider remaining stock at a clear discount, or look at a battery with a current local supply chain.
- Best for
- Existing Huawei inverter owners adding 5 kWh modules while stock lasts
- Look elsewhere if
- New buyers wanting long-term expansion, local sales support or high backup power

From the manufacturer's Australian datasheet. Check the exact model number on your quote.
The Huawei LUNA2000 is a slim, modular home battery built from 5 kWh packs stacked under a small power module. It launched in Australia in 2021 as a companion to Huawei’s SUN2000 hybrid inverters and was a popular mid-priced choice for a few years, usually quoted in 10 kWh or 15 kWh sizes. The Australian version is the LUNA2000-5/10/15-S0, which is still the only LUNA residential battery on Huawei’s Australian website.
The situation has changed since then. SolarQuotes now reports that Huawei batteries are no longer sold in Australia, with Perth-based SolarGain’s iStore brand supplying compatible, Huawei-made batteries instead. That makes this review most useful for existing LUNA2000 owners and anyone being offered remaining stock. It is based on manufacturer documentation, warranty terms, published pricing and owner and installer feedback; Solar Cobber did not test the product and was not paid by the manufacturer.
What it is and how it works
Each LUNA2000 stack has one LUNA2000-5KW-C0 power module on top and one to three LUNA2000-5-E0 battery modules underneath, giving 5, 10 or 15 kWh. Two stacks can run in parallel for up to 30 kWh. The battery is DC-coupled: it connects to a Huawei SUN2000 hybrid inverter, which handles both solar and storage.
Huawei’s distinctive feature is a built-in energy optimiser for each 5 kWh pack. In plain terms, every module is charged and discharged on its own terms rather than as one long chain, which Huawei says improves usable energy and lets modules of different ages work together. The cells are lithium iron phosphate (LFP).
The datasheet lists these compatible inverters:
- Single-phase: SUN2000-2 to 6KTL-L1.
- Three-phase: SUN2000-3 to 10KTL-M0 and SUN2000-3 to 10KTL-M1.
SolarQuotes notes that backup on three-phase only works with the M1 inverters, not the M0. For blackout protection you also need a separate Huawei Backup Box.
In market terms, the LUNA2000 sat in the mid-price tier alongside BYD and Sungrow. Today it is effectively an end-of-line product in Australia.
Specs that matter in Australia
Power is the weak point. A 5 kWh stack delivers a maximum of 2.5 kW, and a 10 or 15 kWh stack 5 kW, with short peaks of 3.5 kW and 7 kW for 10 seconds. That limits what you can run from the battery at once, particularly in backup mode. SolarQuotes reported the three-phase Backup Box is limited to 3.3 kW per phase and 5 kW total.
Heat and cold. The operating range is -10°C to 55°C, but the datasheet says charge and discharge power derate below 5°C and above 45°C. Huawei’s warranty policy recommends installing at room temperature and gives 15°C to 30°C as the optimal range. Outdoors is allowed (IP66), but a shaded wall or garage is the better choice in most of Australia.
Shape and noise. At 150 mm deep, the stack is much slimmer than most floor-standing batteries. A 15 kWh stack stands 1,320 mm tall and weighs 163.8 kg. It is floor-standing as standard, with an optional wall bracket, and Huawei rates it under 29 dB.
Single or three-phase. Both are supported through Huawei’s inverters, but check that a three-phase quote uses an M1 inverter if you want backup.
Rebate listing. We confirmed that the LUNA2000-5-S0, 10-S0 and 15-S0 are on the Clean Energy Council approved batteries list, approved on 8 April 2024 and listed until 8 April 2027. iStore’s compatible IS-BATT S0 models (5, 10 and 15 kWh) are also listed, and iStore added IS-BATT S1 models of 6.9, 13.8 and 20.7 kWh usable in September 2026.
Price in Australia
There is no current published Australian price range for the LUNA2000, because SolarQuotes reports it is no longer sold here through normal channels. Older pricing (from SolarQuotes’ review, last updated in 2024) is out of date and pre-dates the federal rebate, so we have not used it.
If an installer offers you new LUNA2000 stock, judge it against current batteries on price per usable kWh and check:
- Rebate eligibility. The S0 models are on the CEC approved list until April 2027, so they can attract the Cheaper Home Batteries discount if the installer and system meet the program rules. For May to December 2026 the discount is about A$251 per usable kWh (6.8 STCs at about A$37) on the first 14 kWh, so roughly A$1,260 for a 5 kWh module, A$2,520 for 10 kWh and A$3,670 for 15 kWh. See our battery rebate guide.
- Backup Box cost, which is extra.
- Stock age, because Huawei’s warranty policy starts the warranty clock 180 days after Huawei ships products sold through distributors, not on your install date.

Warranty: the fine print
Huawei’s Residential Smart PV Warranty Policy (Global, Issue 04, November 2025) sets these terms for the LUNA2000-S0 in Australia:
- Power module: 10 years.
- Battery modules: 10 years or 16.45 MWh of throughput per 5 kWh pack, at 60% end-of-life capacity, whichever comes first. 16.45 MWh is about 3,290 full cycles of a 5 kWh module.
- Start date: for products sold through distribution, 180 days after Huawei ships them. Old stock can therefore lose warranty time before it is installed.
- Install within one month of purchase, and report faults within one month. Damage from failing to recharge the battery regularly is excluded.
- Stay connected. The ESS must be connected to Huawei’s FusionSolar platform for remote firmware updates; cell damage caused by missed updates on unconnected systems is not covered.
- Parts, not labour. The policy describes remote support and replacement hardware. It does not promise on-site labour, so ask your installer what they charge for warranty visits.
Huawei still supports Australian owners locally, according to SolarQuotes, with an office in Chatswood, NSW (02 9928 3888), and your installer remains the first point of contact. SolarQuotes also reported that the Backup Box carries only a 2-year warranty. The Australian Consumer Law guarantees apply regardless of these terms.
What owners and installers report
On SolarQuotes, Huawei batteries hold a 4.8 out of 5 average across 50 owner reviews, with 44 five-star reviews and none below three stars. Owners consistently praise reliability, the slim form factor, overnight coverage and how easy it is to add 5 kWh modules. Several say their only regret is not buying more capacity at the start.
The complaints are about the brand’s position rather than faults:
- No longer sold in Australia. This is the most common concern in recent reviews, along with uncertainty about future upgrades.
- Expansion deadline. SolarQuotes says 5 kWh add-on modules are only available from iStore until the end of 2026 or while stocks last.
- Backup Box warranty. SolarQuotes rates the Backup Box’s short warranty as a weak point.
We found no ACCC or Clean Energy Council recall for the LUNA2000 at the time of writing.
