The 7 Best Solar Battery Installers in Melbourne for 2026

This guide is for Melbourne households adding a battery to existing solar, or buying solar and storage together, who want an installer with real battery experience. Batteries reward careful commissioning, sensible sizing and good backup design, and they punish installers who treat them as an upsell.

We compared seven installers: Jet Solar, Lightning Energy, Hybrid Solar Solutions Australia, Solar Battery Group, RACV Solar, Climasolar and HP Energy. They were assessed through independent desk research using company websites, review patterns on Google, SolarQuotes and ProductReview, published pricing and Solar Victoria and federal program pages. We did not contact any company, request quotes or accept payment for inclusion.

You will learn who to call first, each company’s real weaknesses, which incentives actually apply in Victoria in late 2026, and what to check before paying a deposit.

Which incentives apply in Melbourne (October 2026)

Federal discount. The Cheaper Home Batteries Program is the main battery incentive. Since 1 May 2026 it is tiered: the full rate on the first 14kWh of usable capacity, 60 per cent from 14kWh to 28kWh and 15 per cent from 28kWh to 50kWh. Solar Choice estimates the full rate at about $252 per kWh at a $37 certificate price, roughly $3,400 off a 13.5kWh Tesla Powerwall 3. The certificate factor steps down again on 1 January 2027. Grid-connected batteries must be VPP-capable, though joining a VPP is optional.

Solar Victoria. The Solar Victoria interest-free solar battery loan is closed to new applications; its page says it is no longer taking applications. The Solar Victoria solar panel rebate is still open as of October 2026: up to $1,400 for eligible owner-occupiers (household income under $150,000, property value under $3 million, no solar in the past 10 years), with an optional matching interest-free loan. It only helps if you are installing new panels with your battery, and you must use a Solar Victoria authorised retailer. See our battery rebate guide and state-by-state rebate guide.

Cons

  • Battery range is narrow and Tesla-led, with Sungrow and GoodWe the main alternatives

How we reviewed

We shortlisted from Google Maps listings across Melbourne, search results for Melbourne battery installers, manufacturer certification claims and review platforms, keeping only companies with clear battery offerings. Each was assessed on reputation and experience, battery range, installation model, pricing signals, warranty, customer service and after-sales review patterns.

Sources were company websites, Solar Victoria pages, DCCEEW program information, Solar Choice rebate data, SolarQuotes and ProductReview reviews, and Google ratings as of October 2026. We requested no quotes, made no visits or calls, and no company paid for placement.

Choosing a solar battery installer in Melbourne

Check accreditation. Battery installers must be Solar Accreditation Australia accredited for the federal discount. Solar Cobber does not verify accreditation; check the SAA register and New Energy Tech approved seller list.

Size to your usage. Ask for a sizing based on your interval data, not a default 30kWh.

Plan backup. Ask which circuits are backed up and whether your switchboard needs work.

Know your network. CitiPower, Powercor, Jemena, United Energy and AusNet set export rules for Melbourne homes.

Check rebate maths. Quotes should show the federal discount at the current rate. See our quote comparison guide.

Get timeframes in writing. Commissioning delays recur in reviews across installers.

FAQ

How much does a battery cost in Melbourne?

Published Powerwall 3 prices from Sydney installers run roughly $13,500 to $16,500 before the federal discount of roughly $3,400, a useful benchmark for Melbourne quotes. Budget brands cost much less. See our battery cost guide.

Is there a Victorian battery rebate?

Not currently. The Solar Victoria battery loan is closed. The federal discount applies.

Can I combine the Solar Victoria panel rebate with the federal battery discount?

If you are eligible and installing new panels, the panel rebate applies to the panels and the federal discount to the battery.

How many quotes should I get?

Three: a premium installer, a multi-brand installer and a budget option.

Which warranties matter most?

The battery’s 10-year product warranty and the installer’s workmanship warranty.

What if my installer goes bust?

Product warranties survive. Workmanship cover does not. See our solar company failures tracker.

Red flags in a battery quote?

No usable capacity figure, outdated rebate figures, large deposits and same-day pressure.
