We Reviewed the Best Solar Companies in Coffs Harbour (2026)

Coffs Harbour combines coastal homes exposed to salt air, hinterland properties that sit at the end of long power lines, and a competitive local solar market. This guide is for households and small businesses from Woolgoolga to Sawtell and up to Dorrigo who want to pick an installer with confidence. We reviewed seven companies with a base on the Coffs Coast: Coffs Solar Energy, Mega Watt Power, SAE Group (Coffs Harbour depot), BetterVolt, Solar Powered Homes, Solahart Coffs Coast and Sapphire Beach Solar.

This is independent desk research based on company websites, public records, accreditation information, Google and SolarQuotes review patterns and published pricing. We did not visit, phone or request quotes from any company, and no company paid to be included. You will learn who suits which job, each company’s real weaknesses, the NSW incentives that apply now, and what to check before you sign.

Best Overall: Coffs Solar Energy

Coffs Solar Energy is a locally owned company founded by managing director Mark McClurg. It says it has worked on the Coffs Coast for more than 17 years and completed over 6,000 installations, and it runs a separate servicing arm. It has by far the largest Google review base of any Coffs installer.

Pros

  • 5.0 stars from roughly 320 Google reviews as of October 2026
  • Publishes clearly specified packages, from a 3.8kW starter system to solar plus 30kWh of storage, listing panel wattage and exact Sungrow inverter models
  • Battery-ready packages use Sungrow hybrid inverters (see our Sungrow SH-RS review)
  • Runs a separate servicing business and promotes NSW Home Energy Saver zero-interest finance

Cons

  • Package prices sit behind a contact form, and its site does not state a workmanship warranty period
  • Its value battery range uses Anker SOLIX, a newer entrant to Australian home storage with a shorter local track record than Sungrow, BYD or Tesla

Key facts. 26B Isles Drive, North Boambee Valley. 17+ years locally, 6,000+ installs (company figures). Focuses exclusively on the Coffs Coast.

Why we selected them. A large, perfect review base plus transparent component specifications make it the safest first call for most homes.

Products and brands. 475W panels with Sungrow SG and SH inverters; Anker SOLIX “Performance” and Sungrow battery “Premium” bundles; commercial packages.

Installation quality and reputation. Reviews on ProductReview and Google describe efficient, friendly, neat crews. Whether all installers are employees is not stated, so ask.

Pricing and value. Not published; instant package prices are emailed after you enter your details. Federal battery discounts are included in battery bundles.

Warranty and after-sales. Workmanship period not published. Its dedicated servicing business is useful for long-term maintenance.

What customers say. Praise for communication and tidy installs. A Facebook rating of 92 per cent recommend from 20 reviews suggests a few less happy customers, but we found no detailed complaint pattern.

Best for / look elsewhere. Most Coffs Coast homes. Look elsewhere if you want prices without handing over contact details.

Best for Service and Repairs: Mega Watt Power

Mega Watt Power is a family-owned Coffs Harbour company established in 1989. It says it has installed more than 6,000 residential systems and over 5MW of commercial solar, has commissioned inverters on large solar farms, and is the only Coffs-area installer able to do full technical inverter repairs from its own service centre.

Pros

  • 5.0 stars from roughly 80 Google reviews as of October 2026
  • Trading since 1989, the longest history in this review
  • In-house service centre for testing and inverter repairs, plus post-warranty support
  • Says it is a Tesla Powerwall Certified Installer (see our Powerwall 3 review); also installs Sigenergy, off-grid systems and solar water pumping

Cons

  • Its website does not publish a full panel and inverter brand list or a workmanship warranty period
  • Fewer Google reviews than Coffs Solar Energy despite a much longer history, so recent residential feedback is thinner

Get a quote via Mega Watt Power, or browse all Coffs Harbour installers in our directory.

Key facts. 15 Isles Drive, Coffs Harbour. Family-owned since 1989. Residential service from Maclean and Grafton to Armidale and Port Macquarie.

Why we selected them. Inverters are the part most likely to fail, and an installer that can diagnose and repair them locally is valuable for the life of a system.

Products and brands. Tesla Powerwall, Sigenergy and Australian-made AllSolus energy monitoring are named. Ask for full datasheets.

Installation quality and reputation. Its Trustpilot score is also near-perfect (about 120 reviews), but we found few detailed reviews describing installs.

Pricing and value. Not published. Free assessments offered.

Warranty and after-sales. Warranty and post-warranty support are handled from its service centre; the workmanship period is not stated.

What customers say. Ratings are consistently high on Google and Trustpilot. No recurring complaint theme found.

Best for / look elsewhere. Buyers who prioritise long-term service, and owners of older systems that need repair. Look elsewhere if you want brand lists online.

Best Advertised Workmanship Warranty: SAE Group

SAE Group is a large NSW and Queensland solar company founded in 2010 and headquartered in Kingscliff. Its North Boambee Valley depot, which it calls one of its largest, runs a local in-house crew with “no outside contractors.” It is listed in our directory as SAE Group.

Pros

  • 4.8 stars from roughly 90 Google reviews for the Coffs depot as of October 2026
  • Its Coffs Harbour page advertises a 30-year install warranty, the longest headline workmanship promise we found locally
  • Wide range: Tindo, SunPower Maxeon, TCL and Suntech panels; Sungrow, Fronius, GoodWe and SolarEdge inverters; BYD, Tesla, Fox ESS and GoodWe batteries
  • Weekly pricing published, from $22.95 a week for a 6.6kW system, with Brighte, Zip and credit union finance

Cons

  • Its SolarQuotes profile states a 12-year workmanship warranty, which conflicts with the 30-year headline, so get the exact terms in writing
  • SolarQuotes shows 4.5 from about 1,600 reviews company-wide, with recent complaints about system faults left unresolved for weeks or months

Get a quote via SAE Group, or browse all Coffs Harbour installers in our directory.

Key facts. 2/19 Engineering Drive, North Boambee Valley. Company since 2010. NSW licence 227562C.

Why we selected them. A local in-house crew with large-company finance, brand range and warranty structure is a real option for buyers who value those things.

Products and brands. As above, including Australian-made Tindo (see our Tindo review).

Installation quality and reputation. A Coffs reviewer on SolarQuotes praised a “fast neat” install that even replaced broken tiles.

Pricing and value. Weekly finance pricing is published; SolarQuotes lists standard 6.6kW systems at about $5,400 to $7,265.

Warranty and after-sales. Long advertised warranty, but after-sales responsiveness is the main complaint theme.

What customers say. Installation is consistently praised; follow-up on faults is the weak spot.

Best for / look elsewhere. Buyers wanting finance and a long written warranty. Look elsewhere if fast after-sales response matters most.

Best for Off-Grid and the Hinterland: BetterVolt

BetterVolt was founded in 2010 and is led by solar and battery specialist Geoff Tosio from a base in Dorrigo. Its own licensed electricians install every job, and its speciality is off-grid design that sizes systems for a bad winter week rather than a yearly average.

Pros

  • 5.0 stars from roughly 30 Google reviews as of October 2026
  • Off-grid and stand-alone design is its core speciality, which suits hinterland properties
  • Named in-house electricians and no subcontracting, according to the company
  • Fronius inverters and Sigenergy SigenStor batteries, plus Catch Power hot water diverters

Cons

  • Based in Dorrigo, roughly an hour’s drive from Coffs Harbour, so ask about response times for coastal service calls
  • A narrow brand list (LONGi, Fronius, Sigenergy) and no published workmanship warranty period

Get a quote via BetterVolt, or browse all Coffs Harbour installers in our directory.

Key facts. 1 Ash Street, Dorrigo. Founded 2010. SAA accredited for solar and battery design, per the company. Services Coffs Harbour, Bellingen, Nambucca, Grafton and the hinterland.

Why we selected them. Off-grid design is unforgiving, and BetterVolt treats it as its main business rather than a sideline.

Products and brands. LONGi panels, Fronius inverters and Wattpilot EV chargers, Sigenergy and BYD batteries.

Installation quality and reputation. In-house electricians only. Its perfect Google score is consistent, but the sample is modest.

Pricing and value. Not published.

Warranty and after-sales. Not published. Ask for the workmanship period in writing.

What customers say. Consistently 5-star ratings. We found no complaint theme, though few detailed reviews.

Best for / look elsewhere. Off-grid and hinterland properties. Coastal homeowners may prefer a Coffs-based crew.

Best for Energy Audits and Efficiency Upgrades: Solar Powered Homes

Solar Powered Homes is a Toormina business whose team cites more than 30 years of electrical experience and 15 years in solar. Besides grid-connect solar, it offers energy auditing, stand-alone power, solar hot water and heat pumps, pre-paid metering and LED lighting for homes and businesses.

Pros

  • 4.9 stars from roughly 35 Google reviews as of October 2026
  • Energy auditing and efficiency work alongside solar
  • Stand-alone power and business solutions
  • Says it is a Qcells Q Partner

Cons

  • Its website promotes SMA PowerUP partner status, but SMA has left the Australian home inverter market, so confirm which inverter and local support you will actually get (see our SMA Sunny Boy review)
  • Its site still cites “CEC Approved Solar Retailer” status, a scheme replaced by New Energy Tech approval, and does not publish warranty terms

Get a quote via Solar Powered Homes, or browse all Coffs Harbour installers in our directory.

Key facts. Shed 5/6 Hulberts Road, Toormina. 15 years in solar, per the company.

Why we selected them. Cutting consumption before buying panels often saves more, and few installers offer audits.

Products and brands. Qcells panels, SMA inverters (check current supply), solar hot water and heat pumps.

Installation quality and reputation. A 4.9 Google average suggests consistent work. Installer employment model not stated.

Pricing and value. Not published.

Warranty and after-sales. Not published.

What customers say. Positive overall. We found no recurring complaint theme, but few detailed public reviews.

Best for / look elsewhere. Homes and businesses wanting efficiency advice with solar. Look elsewhere if you want current-generation battery brands listed upfront.

Best for Solar Plus Hot Water: Solahart Coffs Coast

Solahart Coffs Coast is run by Namoi Sustainable Pty Ltd, owned by Lachlan and Will, who have operated the Solahart Tamworth dealership since 2014 and bought the Coffs branch in 2021. It covers Red Rock to Scotts Head and west to Dorrigo.

Pros

  • One contractor for panels, batteries, solar hot water and heat pumps, with electrical and plumbing licences
  • Brand partners include Tesla, SolarEdge, GoodWe and Enphase
  • Interest-free finance available
  • Solahart says it ranked first in Canstar Blue’s 2024 solar installer ratings

Cons

  • Only about 17 Google reviews for the local branch as of October 2026, so the national rating it promotes says little about this crew
  • Panels are mostly Solahart’s own range, making open-market comparison harder

Get a quote via Solahart Coffs Coast, or browse all Coffs Harbour installers in our directory.

Key facts. Unit 5, 22-24 Marcia Street, Coffs Harbour. Contractor licence 278961C. Current owners since 2021.

Why we selected them. The only Coffs option combining hot water expertise with solar under one national brand.

Products and brands. Solahart panels and hot water, SolarEdge, GoodWe and Enphase inverters, Tesla batteries.

Installation quality and reputation. Local reviews are positive, though the sample is small.

Pricing and value. Not published. Dealer pricing on straight solar is rarely the lowest.

Warranty and after-sales. Solahart product warranties apply; the workmanship period is not stated in years.

What customers say. Positive, small sample.

Best for / look elsewhere. Households replacing hot water and adding solar. Look elsewhere for the widest panel choice.

Best Owner-Operator: Sapphire Beach Solar

Sapphire Beach Solar is a small Coffs Coast business run by Martin Bramall. Its pitch is continuity: “the person that does the proposal does the installation.” It designs custom systems rather than package deals, from off-grid cabins to large homes.

Pros

  • 5.0 stars from roughly 17 Google reviews as of October 2026
  • The designer is the installer, so nothing is lost between sale and install
  • Custom design, including off-grid cabins and AC-coupled batteries
  • Uses SolarEdge (see our SolarEdge Home Hub review) and Trina hardware

Cons

  • A one-person-led business has limited capacity, so expect waits in busy periods and ask about cover if the owner is unavailable
  • Trading only since around 2022, with no published warranty or brand list

Get a quote via Sapphire Beach Solar, or browse all Coffs Harbour installers in our directory.

Key facts. Sapphire Beach, north of Coffs Harbour. Owner Martin Bramall. Site displays designer and installer accreditation badges.

Why we selected them. A perfect score from a genuine owner-operator who designs every system.

Products and brands. SolarEdge Energy Hub inverters, Trina panels and AC batteries.

Installation quality and reputation. Testimonials on its site praise its design work, including an off-grid cabin system.

Pricing and value. Not published; quotes are custom.

Warranty and after-sales. Not published.

What customers say. Uniformly positive, but the sample is small.

Best for / look elsewhere. Buyers wanting a tailored design. Look elsewhere for large commercial jobs or tight deadlines.

How we reviewed

We built a long list from Google Maps searches around Coffs Harbour, Google results, SolarQuotes and our installer directory. We kept companies with a Coffs Coast base and a meaningful review record and checked each website to confirm local installation. National companies without a Coffs office were excluded.

We compared reputation and experience, equipment, installation model, pricing transparency, warranty terms, customer service and after-sales patterns. Ratings come from Google Maps and SolarQuotes as of October 2026, rounded. We did not request quotes, contact companies or accept payment for placement, and there is no scoring formula behind the order.

Choosing a solar company in Coffs Harbour

Check accreditation yourself. Installer accreditation moved from the Clean Energy Council to Solar Accreditation Australia in 2024. Retailers should be New Energy Tech Approved Sellers. Check both registers rather than relying on website badges.

Plan for salt air. Beachside homes need panels, racking and fixings rated for coastal exposure. Ask whether any warranty excludes salt corrosion within a set distance of the sea.

Hinterland homes are different. Long rural lines on the Essential Energy network can limit exports and suffer outages. Ask about export limits, and consider a battery with backup.

Use the NSW zero-interest loan. NSW has no panel rebate, but the Home Energy Saver program offers owners with household income up to $210,000 a zero-interest loan of up to $15,000, repayable over up to 10 years, for upgrades including solar and batteries. Discounts of up to $4,000 for lower-income households are due to open.

Batteries. The federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program discounts eligible batteries by around 30 per cent. The NSW upfront battery discount was suspended from 1 July 2025, but NSW still pays an incentive for connecting a 2 to 50 kWh battery to a virtual power plant. See our battery rebate guide.

STCs. The federal STC discount applies to every quote and declines each year until 2030 (see our STC guide).

Compare properly. Get three quotes and use our quote comparison guide, installer checklist, NSW top 10 and NSW directory listings.

FAQ

How much does solar cost in Coffs Harbour in 2026? SAE Group publishes 6.6kW systems from $22.95 a week on finance, and SolarQuotes lists its standard 6.6kW price at about $5,400 to $7,265. Batteries add several thousand dollars after the federal discount.

How many quotes should I get? Three, compared on brands, warranty terms and export limit.

Which warranties matter most? Workmanship, because it covers the installation. SAE advertises 30 years; most others do not publish a period, so ask.

Are cheap installers safe? Not always. Very cheap quotes often come from out-of-area companies that subcontract. Ask who installs and who handles warranty calls.

What happens if my installer goes out of business? Product warranties stay with the manufacturer; workmanship cover usually ends with the company. Long histories like Mega Watt Power’s carry weight.

Should I add a battery now or later? The federal discount and NSW VPP incentive make 2026 a strong time, especially in outage-prone hinterland areas. If you wait, choose a battery-ready inverter.

How much deposit is normal? Ten per cent or less is common.

What are red flags in a quote? No brand or model numbers, no workmanship period, no coastal suitability information, pressure to sign today, or warranty claims that differ between the website and the contract.
