The 7 Best Solar Companies on the Mornington Peninsula for 2026

The Mornington Peninsula is a good place for rooftop solar and a tricky place to buy it. Homes range from Frankston brick veneers to clifftop holiday houses in Portsea, many sit within reach of salt spray, and plenty are empty for weeks at a time. This guide is for Peninsula homeowners who want a local installer rather than a metropolitan call centre.

We reviewed seven installers that are actually based on or at the edge of the Peninsula: Protec Electrical and Solar (Mornington), Dunton Group (Dromana), Solar 360 Australia (Hastings), South Beach Solar (Mount Martha), BJ White Solar (Hastings), Erg Energy (Seaford) and Watson Electrical and Solar (Rosebud). We compared crews, equipment, warranties, review patterns and how far each travels.

This is independent desk research using company websites, Google and SolarQuotes reviews, Tesla’s installer finder, Solar Victoria and public records. We did not request quotes, visit any business or speak to the companies, and none paid to be included. You will finish with a shortlist, the trade-offs, and a checklist for Peninsula-specific issues like coastal corrosion and holiday-home monitoring.

The Shortlist

  • Best Overall: Protec Electrical and Solar
  • Best for Batteries and Tesla Powerwall: Dunton Group Electrical and Solar
  • Best for Western Port and Phillip Island Coverage: Solar 360 Australia
  • Best Family-Run Local: South Beach Solar
  • Best for Non-Tesla Battery Options: BJ White Solar
  • Best for Frankston and the Northern Peninsula: Erg Energy
  • Best Southern Peninsula Owner-Operator: Watson Electrical and Solar

Best Overall: Protec Electrical and Solar

Protec is the most complete Peninsula-based option. It is a Mornington electrical contractor that says it has done more than 1,000 installs across the Peninsula over 10-plus years, and its service map lists suburbs from Mount Eliza and Moorooduc to Portsea and Point Leo.

Pros

  • About 4.9 stars from roughly 140 Google reviews, with recurring praise for communication and competitive pricing
  • The broadest battery range of the locals: Tesla Powerwall 3, Sigenergy, Enphase IQ8 and IQ batteries, GoodWe and SolarEdge
  • Full electrical contractor, so switchboard upgrades, three-phase work and EV chargers are handled by the same business

Cons

  • Advertises Powerwall 3 installation but did not appear on Tesla’s Certified Installer finder for postcode 3931 when we checked; if Tesla certification matters to you, ask how the install and warranty registration are handled
  • Most reviews name the same person, Troy, and a small crew; a business that leans on one key person can stretch thin in busy rebate periods

How We Reviewed

We mapped installers with a base between Seaford and Rosebud using Google Maps, our directory and search results, then removed metropolitan companies without a Peninsula base and anyone with too few reviews to judge. We checked Tesla’s finder for postcode 3931 and read SolarQuotes profiles where they existed.

Each company was judged on experience, equipment, installation model, pricing signals, warranty, customer service and after-sales support. No quotes were requested and no company paid for inclusion.

Solar Cobber does not verify accreditation. Check the Clean Energy Council approved retailer list, the Solar Accreditation Australia register and, for the Victorian rebate, Solar Victoria’s authorised retailer list.

Choosing a Solar Company on the Mornington Peninsula

Claim the Victorian rebate correctly. Solar Victoria offers up to $1,400 off a solar panel system plus an optional matching interest-free loan, if combined household income is under $150,000 and the property is worth under $3 million. Rebates are released monthly, and you must use an authorised retailer. The federal STC discount applies on top; see our STC explainer.

Expect low feed-in tariffs. Victoria has had no minimum feed-in tariff since 1 July 2025, so retailers pay what they choose. Design for self-consumption, and read our feed-in tariff tracker.

Batteries get federal help only. No Victorian battery scheme is open; the federal discount takes roughly 30 per cent off. See our battery rebate guide and battery reviews.

Coastal corrosion. Within sight of the bay or Bass Strait, ask whether panels are rated for salt mist and whether rails and fixings suit coastal sites.

Holiday homes. If the house sits empty, insist on monitoring you can check remotely.

Your network. United Energy runs the Peninsula’s network; your installer handles connection approval.

Compare carefully. Use our quote comparison guide, installer checklist, the Victoria top 10 and Victorian listings.

FAQ

How much does solar cost on the Mornington Peninsula?

Prices depend on brand and roof, but SolarQuotes reviewers of one Hastings installer report paying about $11,760 to $13,000 for 10 kW to 13 kW systems. Budget brands come in lower, premium panels higher.

Is a battery worth it here?

With low feed-in tariffs, storing solar is more valuable than exporting it. The federal discount steps down on 1 January 2027.

How many quotes should I get?

Three, ideally one from each part of the Peninsula’s range: premium, mid and value.

Are cheap installers safe?

Some are fine, but check accreditation, model numbers and who installs.

What if my installer closes?

Manufacturer warranties survive; workmanship cover may not. Favour established locals.

What deposit is reasonable?

Ten to 20 per cent; avoid full prepayment.

Red flags?

No site visit, vague brands, or pressure to sign before a rebate “runs out”.
