Hervey Bay has one of the busiest solar markets in regional Queensland, with a large retiree population, plenty of single-storey homes and a mix of family electrical firms and national brands. This guide compares six companies installing solar in Hervey Bay and the Fraser Coast: GCR Solar, East Coast Electrical and Solar, Solargain Hervey Bay, Solahart Hervey Bay, Fraser Coast Energy and Sunjuice Solar. We looked at years operating, installation model, published equipment, warranties, pricing signals, Google ratings and review patterns.
This is independent desk research using company websites, the Australian Business Register, review platforms, Google Maps rating data, published pricing and the Queensland Competition Authority’s tariff determination. We did not visit any company, request quotes or interview staff, and no company paid to be included. By the end you will know who to call first, the drawbacks of each, and what to ask before paying a deposit.

How We Reviewed
We built a long list from Google Maps searches for solar installers and solar panels around Hervey Bay, Google search results, SolarQuotes listings and our Queensland installer directory. We kept companies with a Fraser Coast base and evidence on their own sites of local residential installs. We then compared reputation and years operating, equipment, installation model (where disclosed), pricing signals, warranties, review volume and patterns, and after-sales support.
Sources were company websites, the Australian Business Register, SolarQuotes, Google Maps rating data collected in October 2026 and the Queensland Competition Authority’s 2026-27 determination. We did not request quotes, contact companies or inspect installs, and no company paid for placement. Facts we could not verify are marked “not published”.
Choosing a Solar Company in Hervey Bay
Check accreditation yourself. Installer accreditation moved from the Clean Energy Council to Solar Accreditation Australia (SAA) in 2024, and retailers sign up to the New Energy Tech Consumer Code. Check the installer on the SAA register and the retailer on the CEC approved retailer list.
Know the Ergon feed-in tariff. Hervey Bay is on the Ergon Energy network. The Queensland Competition Authority sets a flat regional feed-in tariff each year: 6.006c per kWh from 1 July 2026, down 31 per cent from 8.660c in 2025-26. The QCA says customers should not expect it to stay the same. At 6c, using your own solar is worth more than exporting it. See our feed-in tariff tracker.
Ask about export limits. Ergon approves every connection and single-phase homes commonly face an export limit. Ask what the design assumes and who lodges the application.
Mind the salt air. Many Hervey Bay homes are close to the water. Ask whether the panels, racking and inverter are rated for coastal or salt-mist exposure at your address, because some manufacturer warranties exclude installs near the sea.
In-house or subcontracted. GCR and Solargain say they use their own teams. Ask everyone else who will be on your roof.
Get three warranty numbers. Panel product (25 to 30 years), inverter (usually 10 years) and workmanship (10 years is the benchmark). Sunjuice publishes 5 years; most others publish nothing, so get it on the quote.
Rebates. The federal STC discount applies upfront, and the battery rebate has cut storage prices since July 2025. Queensland has no general state solar rebate on top.
Compare like for like. Get three quotes with named components (our quote guide). See our top Queensland installers and the full directory for more options.
FAQ
How much does solar cost in Hervey Bay?
As of October 2026, SolarQuotes listings for Hervey Bay mostly showed 6.6kW systems between about $6,250 and $10,600 after the STC discount. Sunjuice advertises from $5,290. Batteries add several thousand dollars after the federal discount.
Is solar worth it on a 6c feed-in tariff?
Yes for most households who are home during the day, which suits Hervey Bay’s many retirees. Run air conditioning, pool pumps and hot water while the sun is up.
How many quotes should I get?
Three: a well-reviewed local firm, a national brand and a budget option, all quoting the same size with named components.
Which warranty matters most?
The workmanship warranty, because installation faults are the most common real problems. Then the inverter warranty.
Are cheap installers safe?
They can be, if the quote names quality brands with Australian offices and the workmanship warranty is in writing. Ask any budget quote for model numbers.
What if my installer goes out of business?
Manufacturer warranties survive if the brand has an Australian office. The workmanship warranty usually ends with the company.
Should I add a battery now?
With a 6c feed-in tariff and the federal discount stepping down over time, batteries are more attractive than before, but only if you use enough power after dark.
What are the red flags in a quote?
No named models, no mention of the Ergon application or export limit, no coastal rating for gear near the sea, a verbal-only warranty, a deposit above about 10 per cent, and same-day pressure.
