Shepparton has an unusually deep bench of local solar businesses for a city its size, from a regional electrical group founded here in 1957 to a one-owner solar business and a national off-grid specialist headquartered in town. This guide is for Shepparton, Mooroopna, Kialla and wider Goulburn Valley households comparing quotes for solar, batteries or solar hot water. We reviewed seven companies with a verified Shepparton base: Watters Electrical & Solar, Blake Campbell Solar, Future NRG Shepparton, Commodore Australia, Solahart Goulburn Valley, Byers Electrical and Johnstone Electrical & Sunvalley Solar. This is independent desk research using company websites, Google and SolarQuotes review data, Solar Victoria program pages and published pricing. We did not contact these companies, request quotes or accept payment for inclusion. By the end you will know who to call first, where each company falls short, and what to check in a Goulburn Valley quote. For the statewide picture, see our Victoria top 10.

Best Overall: Watters Electrical & Solar
Watters was founded in Shepparton in 1957 and is now a regional electrical group with more than 250 staff across Shepparton, Wangaratta and Albury. Its solar arm offers the broadest equipment range of any Shepparton company we reviewed, and it says it does not subcontract solar installations.

Best Local Owner-Operator: Blake Campbell Solar
Blake Campbell Solar is a family-owned business at 7 Barker Avenue, operating since 2014. Its pitch is simple: you deal with Blake, the owner, rather than a salesperson, and installs are done by a regional Victorian crew. Its review record is the best in town for a solar-only business.

- Owner handles quoting directly, which reviewers credit for honest advice on costs and rebates
- Displays New Energy Tech Approved Seller branding and says installers are accredited
- Helps with Solar Victoria rebate applications and green loan finance
Cons

Best for Off-Grid and Farm Pumping: Commodore Australia
Commodore Australia is headquartered at 20 Callister Street, Shepparton and has designed off-grid power systems and solar water pumps since 2011. It claims more than 5,000 installations nationally. For farms, irrigation pumps and properties far from the grid around the Goulburn Valley, it is the specialist option.

- Off-grid and solar pumping specialisation that general installers rarely match

- ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 certified, and a NETCC Approved Seller, per its website
- Pre-built power hubs and containerised systems suit sheds, pumps and remote sites
Cons
- Installs use a “national network of accredited off-grid sparkies”, so your installer is likely a contracted electrician rather than Commodore staff
- SolarQuotes rating is 4.1 from 19 reviews, including 1 and 2-star reports of unreturned calls, post-install faults and wrong replacement parts
- Little focus on standard grid-connected rooftop systems
Enquire at commodoreaustralia.com.au, or browse all Shepparton installers in our directory.

How we reviewed
We started with Google Maps results for solar installers and solar panels around Shepparton, then cross-checked SolarQuotes listings and Google search results for Shepparton solar companies. We removed battery shops, RV and auto businesses, solar farms, and interstate or Melbourne firms without a Shepparton base. Active Energy Group in Kyabram (directory listing) is a nearby option we did not review in depth.
For each company we read its own website for history, service area, brands, warranty and accreditation claims, then checked Google ratings (October 2026) and SolarQuotes profiles and review themes. We weighed reputation and experience, equipment quality, installation model, pricing, warranties, customer service and after-sales support.
We did not request quotes, contact companies or inspect installations, and no company paid for inclusion. We do not verify accreditation, so check the Clean Energy Council approved retailer list and the Solar Accreditation Australia installer register yourself.
Choosing a solar company in Shepparton
Solar Victoria rebate. The Solar Homes program still offers up to $1,400 off a solar panel system, with an optional interest-free loan of the same amount repaid over four years. Since 30 June 2026 the combined household taxable income limit is $150,000, and the property must be valued under $3 million. Only Solar Victoria authorised retailers can apply it, so ask each company to confirm.
Batteries. Victoria has no state battery rebate or loan open, so the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program is the only discount. From 1 May 2026 it is tiered by battery size. See our battery rebate guide and battery reviews.
Feed-in tariffs. Victoria has had no minimum feed-in tariff since 1 July 2025, so retailers set their own rates. Sizing for self-consumption matters more than export income. See our feed-in tariff tracker.
Grid connection. Shepparton is on the Powercor network. Powercor sets export limits case by case, so your installer should lodge pre-approval and show you the approved figure. If it comes back at 0kW, Powercor offers a flexible exports connection of up to 10kW instead of a fixed zero limit. Connection delays are the most common complaint in local reviews, so ask for a realistic timeline.
Warranties. None of the seven publishes a workmanship term. Ask every company for it in writing, plus who handles inverter and panel claims.
In-house or subcontracted. Watters, the Hot and Cold Shop and Blake Campbell describe their own crews. Commodore uses a contracted network, and Future NRG names a partner electrical business.
Quote transparency. Named panel, inverter and battery models, the STC discount and Solar Homes rebate shown separately, and a clear payment schedule. Use our quote comparison guide.
FAQ
How much does solar cost in Shepparton? Indicative SolarQuotes prices for a 6.6kW system from installers serving Shepparton range from about $5,500 to $5,700 at the value end to $10,000 or more for premium firms, after STCs. Eligible households can take up to $1,400 more off with Solar Homes. See our STC rebate explainer.
Is solar worth it in Shepparton without a minimum feed-in tariff? Usually, because the savings come from using your own solar, not exporting it. Hot Goulburn Valley summers drive daytime air conditioning loads that solar covers well.
How many quotes should I get? Three: a larger established firm, a small local specialist, and one matching your priority (batteries, off-grid or hot water). Our guide to choosing a solar installer explains what to compare.
Which warranties matter most? Workmanship first, then inverter, then panel product warranty.
Are cheap installers safe? Some are, but check SAA accreditation, NETCC approval, Solar Victoria authorisation and a written warranty, and ask whether a Melbourne-based crew will do the install.
What happens if my installer goes bust? Registered manufacturer warranties usually survive, but workmanship warranties die with the company. Company age and local presence are protection.
Should I add a battery now or later? The federal discount helps, but batteries stretch payback. A battery-ready hybrid inverter lets you add storage later. See our guide to battery costs.
What are red flags in a Shepparton solar quote? No named models, no written workmanship term, no mention of the Solar Homes rebate when you are eligible, same-day pressure, and vague answers about who installs and when you will be connected.
