Several of Launceston’s most established solar installers are long-running electrical, plumbing or refrigeration businesses that added solar later. This guide is for Launceston, Tamar Valley and wider northern Tasmania households comparing quotes for solar panels, batteries or solar hot water. We reviewed eight installers with a verified Launceston presence: Tones Solar & Electrical, Mance Electrical, In Series Electrical and Solar, Mode Energy, Home Efficiency Group, Jessups Solar Squad, Solahart Northern Tasmania and Degree C. This is independent desk research using company websites, Google and SolarQuotes review data and published pricing. We did not contact these companies, request quotes or accept payment for inclusion. By the end you will know who to call first, the trade-offs, and what to check in a northern Tasmanian quote. For the statewide picture, see our Tasmania top 10.

Best Overall: Tones Solar & Electrical
Tones is the strongest all-round first call in Launceston. Anthony (Tone) Hemelaar founded it in 1987 and his son Brenton now runs it, with offices at 84 Frederick Street, Launceston and in East Devonport. Its Launceston listing holds 4.9 stars from roughly 430 Google reviews as of October 2026, the largest review base of any solar-focused business in the city.
Pros
- Nearly four decades under the same family
- Two northern offices, useful for Tamar Valley and North West Coast buyers
- Grid-connected, battery, off-grid and battery retrofit work, plus heat pumps and EV chargers
Cons
- No workmanship warranty term is published on its website
- The only panel brand named on its solar page is Suntech, a budget-to-mid brand; ask what premium options exist
- Google reviews mix electrical, refrigeration and air conditioning jobs with solar, so the score does not isolate solar work
Enquire at toneselectrical.com.au, or browse all Launceston installers in our directory.
Key facts. Established 1987, family owned, servicing northern Tasmania. Lists Tasmanian electrical licence 949826. Retailer accreditation is not stated on the pages we read.
Why we selected them. Longevity, two northern bases and a high-volume review record make it a low-risk default.
Products and brands. Suntech panels; Fronius, GoodWe and Sigenergy inverters; Sigenergy, Hopergy and Victron storage. Claims “thousands of installations” across Tasmania.
Installation quality and reputation. An electrical contractor first, which helps with the switchboard upgrades older Launceston homes often need. Crew structure is not stated.
Pricing and value. Not published. Suntech and GoodWe systems should sit in the lower to middle part of the local range.
Warranty and after-sales. Manufacturer warranties apply; get the workmanship term in writing and ask which office handles your callouts.
Best for / look elsewhere. Best for households wanting an established local business with real scale. Look elsewhere for premium panels by default or a published long warranty.
Best Warranty: Mance Electrical
Mance Electrical has wired Launceston homes and businesses since 1920 and is now a four-generation family firm in Invermay. Its solar page is the most transparent in town: it advertises a lifetime workmanship warranty and publishes an installed price range.
Pros
- Lifetime workmanship warranty advertised on its solar page
- Published price: $6,600 to $9,500 for a typical 6.6kW system after STCs
- Says all work is done by its own licensed electricians, with SAA-accredited staff
- 5.0 stars from roughly 490 Google reviews as of October 2026
Cons
- Panel, inverter and battery brands are not named, so you cannot compare hardware until you get a quote
- Most Google reviews relate to electrical call-outs, not solar
- Its price band sits above budget operators
Enquire at manceelectrical.com.au, or browse all Launceston installers in our directory.
Key facts. Established 1920, 10 Robertson Street, Invermay. Covers Launceston, the Tamar Valley and wider northern Tasmania. New Energy Tech Consumer Code status is not stated.
Why we selected them. The longest history here plus the longest advertised workmanship warranty and a published price band.
Products and brands. Tier 1 panels with at least a 25-year performance guarantee and inverters with at least a 10-year warranty, per its site. Hybrid battery systems are offered.
Installation quality and reputation. In-house electricians, according to the company, and a very large, consistently positive review base.
Pricing and value. $6,600 to $9,500 for 6.6kW, per its website. Ask which brands sit at each end.
Warranty and after-sales. A lifetime warranty is only as good as the business behind it, and one trading since 1920 is a stronger bet than most. Get the exclusions in writing.
Best for / look elsewhere. Best for buyers who value long-term accountability. Look elsewhere if you want a brand list upfront or the cheapest quote.
Best for Tesla Batteries: In Series Electrical and Solar
In Series is a Tasmanian-owned electrical and solar business on Henry Street, operating since 2010. It says it has been a Tesla certified installer since 2015 and publishes a 10-year workmanship guarantee, the clearest written warranty among the solar specialists here.
Pros
- Published 10-year workmanship guarantee
- Long Tesla record, per the company, plus Redback, Victron and Selectronic storage
- 5.0 stars from roughly 170 Google reviews and 4.8 from 46 SolarQuotes reviews as of October 2026
Cons
- A few SolarQuotes reviews describe pushy sales steering buyers to the company’s preferred products
- One reviewer reported a three-week delay to fix a panel colour error, so confirm specs before install day
- Pricing is not published and the premium brand list rules it out as the cheapest quote
Enquire at inseries.com.au, or browse all Launceston installers in our directory.
Key facts. Founded 2010, 147 Henry Street, Launceston, with farm, commercial and off-grid projects statewide. States “New Energy Tech accredited installation”. See its directory listing.

Pricing and value. Not published; expect mid to upper pricing. Finance is offered.
Warranty and after-sales. 10-year workmanship guarantee in writing. A couple of reviews note winter output below estimates.
Best for / look elsewhere. Best for battery-first buyers, especially Powerwall. Look elsewhere for a budget panels-only system.
Best for Off-Grid and Engineering: Mode Energy
Mode Energy in St Leonards was founded in 2005 by the Dingemanse family and runs a deliberately small team: five licensed electricians, four apprentices and two office staff, all directly employed according to its website. It takes on off-grid, hybrid and micro-hydro systems that many installers avoid.
Pros
- Directly employed team, no subcontracting mentioned
- Off-grid, hybrid and micro-hydro capability for rural properties
- Premium hardware: SunPower and REC panels, Fronius, SMA and Enphase inverters
Cons
- The only warranty term on its home page is a 5-year retailer warranty, half the term In Series publishes
- A small team means limited capacity, so lead times can stretch in busy periods
- Thin review base: 5.0 from roughly 30 Google reviews as of October 2026
Enquire at modeenergy.com.au, or browse all Launceston installers in our directory.
Key facts. Founded 2005, 4 Kiln Court, St Leonards. Says it is a NETCC approved seller and Powerwall 3 certified installer with SAA-accredited designers. See its directory listing.

Best for / look elsewhere. Best for off-grid and technically complex jobs. Look elsewhere for a quick, cheap suburban install.
Best Statewide Coverage: Home Efficiency Group
Home Efficiency Group (HEG) has its head office and showroom at 285 Invermay Road and sells solar, batteries and heat pumps across Tasmania. It says it has installed solar since 2011, employs 16 full-time sales, admin and operations staff, and has installation teams in Devonport with weekly North West Coast service.
Pros
- Widest stated coverage here: 40-plus named towns from Smithton to St Helens
- Whole-of-home approach covering heating, hot water and tariffs
- 4.7 stars from roughly 170 Google reviews as of October 2026
Cons
- Uses “dozens” of certified installation partners alongside internal crews, so your installer may be a subcontractor
- Lower SolarQuotes rating (4.4 from 35 reviews), with complaints about slow post-install communication, a cancelled install day and slow STC and meter paperwork
- Some reviewers say production estimates were optimistic for Tasmania
Enquire at heg.com.au, or browse all Launceston installers in our directory.
Key facts. Launceston head office, staff in Hobart, teams in Devonport. Accreditation is not stated on the pages we read.

Best for / look elsewhere. Best for regional buyers and whole-of-home upgrades. Look elsewhere if you want a guaranteed in-house crew.
Best Long-Established Local Retailer: Jessups Solar Squad
Jessups Solar Squad on Wellington Street is one of Launceston’s most recognisable names, selling and servicing solar, heat pumps and batteries. Its founding date is reported inconsistently (SolarQuotes says 1949, a business broker listing says 1939), but either way it has decades of local history.
Pros
- Long local presence and a high-visibility showroom
- 4.8 stars from roughly 130 Google reviews as of October 2026
- Mainstream battery range: BYD, Fox ESS and GivEnergy
Cons
- A Tasmanian business broker lists the business as sold; the sale date is not published, so ask who owns it now and whether earlier warranties are honoured
- The same listing describes a small team “assisted by sub-contractors”
- A SolarQuotes reviewer notes it is “not the cheapest”, and its SolarQuotes sample is only 7 reviews
Enquire at solarsquad.com.au, or browse all Launceston installers in our directory.

Best for Solar Hot Water: Solahart Northern Tasmania
Solahart Northern Tasmania operates from 18 Invermay Road and is run by locals Damien and Kirsty Pedder and Brendan Turriff, who say they have more than 15 years in plumbing and solar. The dealership says it has represented Solahart for nearly four decades. It is the natural pick when hot water is part of the plan.
Pros
- PV, batteries, solar hot water, heat pumps and EV chargers from one business
- New Energy Tech Approved Seller, per its website
- Covers Launceston, the East Coast, Midlands, Devonport and Burnie
Cons
- Panel choice is largely limited to Solahart-branded Silhouette panels
- Very small Google review base (4.8 from roughly 16 reviews), and no SolarQuotes reviews yet
- Workmanship warranty and installer structure are not published
Enquire at solahartnorthtas.com.au, or browse all Launceston installers in our directory.
Key facts. 18 Invermay Road, Invermay, northern Tasmania coverage. See its directory listing.
Why we selected them. Hot water is a big part of many Tasmanian bills, and no other installer here has the same hot water depth.
Products and brands. Silhouette panels (30-year warranty, per Solahart); SolarEdge, Enphase and GoodWe inverters; Tesla, SolarEdge and Solahart PowerStore batteries. Zip finance offered.
Installation quality and reputation. Too few public solar reviews to judge a pattern.

Key facts. Statewide coverage from three offices. The “60+ years” claim refers to the wider trade business, not solar. Its SolarQuotes profile dates only from February 2026.
Why we selected them. For households replacing heating and adding solar at once, one contractor simplifies the job.
Products and brands. Suntech, REC and Aiko panels; Fronius and GoodWe inverters; Tesla and Sigenergy batteries.
Installation quality and reputation. 4.9 from 32 SolarQuotes reviews as of October 2026, praising site assessments.

Northern Tasmania coverage
Based on what each company states:
- Devonport, Burnie and the North West Coast: Tones (Devonport office), Home Efficiency Group (Devonport teams), Solahart Northern Tasmania and Degree C (East Ulverstone). Genr8 in Latrobe and DMS Energy in Spreyton also have North West bases, though we have not reviewed them here.
- Tamar Valley: Mance Electrical, Tones and In Series all name Launceston surrounds.
- East Coast and Midlands: Solahart Northern Tasmania and Home Efficiency Group list these areas.
How we reviewed
We started with Google Maps results for solar installers and solar companies around Launceston, then cross-checked SolarQuotes listings and Google search results for Launceston and Tasmania. We removed battery retailers, wholesalers and firms without a verifiable northern Tasmanian base.
For each company we read its own website for history, service area, brands, warranty and accreditation claims, then checked Google ratings (October 2026), SolarQuotes profiles and review themes, and business-sale records where relevant. We weighed reputation and experience, equipment quality, installation model, pricing, written warranties, customer service and after-sales support.
We did not request quotes, contact companies or inspect installations, and no company paid for inclusion. We do not verify accreditation, so check the Clean Energy Council approved retailer list and the Solar Accreditation Australia installer register yourself.
Choosing a solar company in Launceston
Accreditation. Ask for the retailer’s New Energy Tech Consumer Code approval and the installer’s SAA number (installer accreditation moved from the Clean Energy Council to SAA in 2024).
In-house or subcontracted. Mance, Mode Energy and In Series describe in-house teams; Home Efficiency Group and Jessups use subcontractors for some work. Ask who is accountable for roof leaks and wiring faults.
Warranties. Published workmanship terms range from 5 years (Mode Energy, Degree C) to 10 years (In Series) to lifetime (Mance). Four of the eight publish no term.
Feed-in tariff. Tasmania is one of only two places with a regulated minimum. The Office of the Tasmanian Economic Regulator sets it at 9.276c per kWh from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027, up from 8.782c. See our feed-in tariff tracker.
Grid connection. TasNetworks runs the network statewide. Your installer should lodge the connection application before installation and tell you if an export limit applies.
Batteries. The federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program still applies, and from 1 May 2026 the discount is tiered by battery size, so very large batteries get less per extra kWh. See our battery rebate guide and battery reviews.
Quote transparency. Insist on named models, the STC discount shown separately, and a clear payment schedule. Compare hardware using our panel and inverter reviews and our quote comparison guide.
FAQ
How much does solar cost in Launceston? Mance Electrical publishes $6,600 to $9,500 for a typical 6.6kW system after the federal STC discount, a useful local benchmark. SolarQuotes reviewers report around $8,800 to $10,000 for 9kW with one Launceston installer. See our STC rebate explainer.
Is solar worth it in northern Tasmania? Usually, if the system is sized to your daytime use. The 9.276c minimum feed-in tariff helps, and winter heating loads make heat pumps and batteries worth considering. Be wary of payback figures copied from mainland estimates.
How many quotes should I get? Three: a long-established local electrician, a solar specialist, and one matching your priority. Our guide to choosing a solar installer explains what to compare.
Which warranties matter most? Workmanship first, then inverter, then panel product warranty.
Are cheap installers safe? Some are, but check SAA accreditation, NETCC approval and a written warranty, and ask whether crews come from interstate.
What happens if my installer goes bust or is sold? Registered manufacturer warranties usually survive; workmanship warranties often do not. After a sale, ask the new owners in writing whether they honour earlier work.
Should I add a battery now or later? The battery discount makes now attractive, but batteries stretch payback. A battery-ready hybrid inverter lets you add storage later. See our guide to battery costs.
What are red flags in a Tasmanian solar quote? No named hardware models, no written workmanship term, same-day discount pressure, unrealistic winter output figures, and vague answers about who will install.
